Four years ago today was one of the happiest days of my life, but it started off on a not so good start. On Sept. 28, 2005 I went to the hospital around 7:00 pm. I went to have a baby. I was a week late and my fluids were getting low, so my doctor sent me to the hospital to be induced, but because my cervix had not moved forward I had to have medication inserted to start the process of moving my cervix forward. The medication had to be in for 12 hours before the induction could actually start. Around 9:00 the medication was inserted and then the waiting game started. Jerry and I went to sleep, but then around 1:00 I woke up with cramps, low and behold, they were contractions. At first they weren’t too bad. I thought, “I can do this, it’s not so bad.” But then they started getting a little annoying, so around 3:00 I asked for something that would help me to be a little more comfortable. They still weren’t too bad, but I was tired…it was 3:00 in the morning. The nurse gave me stadol, a drug that definitely did its job of putting me to sleep. In between contractions I was out like a light, but still those contractions grew stronger and stronger until I couldn’t take the pain anymore. I opted for the epidural around 4:30, but because they were a little slow at getting it to me, I was already at 10 cm by 5:30 when they arrived…therefore, the epidural didn’t work and the contractions were outrageously painful. My back hurt so bad (because I had all back labor) and I was so drugged up from the stadol that I couldn’t keep my eyes open. Around 6:00 I felt the need to start pushing…it kept me occupied and the pain was less severe while I was pushing. I pushed for close to 3 hours until she finally arrived at 8:43 am. We had a beautiful baby girl! I remember asking “what is it?” because we didn’t find out the sex at our ultrasound. One nurse had called her “buddy” and I was all confused because I was convinced I was carrying a girl, but then my doctor finally said “it’s a girl!” I was overjoyed, but I couldn’t hold her until the nurses had checked her all out because she has swallowed the meconium while still in the womb. Once I finally held her for the first time, I started crying and couldn’t believe what a miracle she was. At 8 lbs. 4 oz., she was amazing! And 4 years later she is still an amazement to me. Allyson Jae Seevers is funny, silly, a jokester, shy, independent, a big helper, and the best big sister ever! Happy birthday baby girl! We love you very much!

What a busy weekend! Friday Jerry dropped the girls off with his mom and we left with my Aunt Julie for a nice 2 ½ hour road trip to Fort Wayne, IN. My Aunt Betsy lives in Fort Wayne and we went to visit her and watch her run her very first mini marathon (13.1 miles) race. Aunt Julie, Jerry, and I biked 9 miles around the race course cheering her on and giving her encouraging words. She did an amazing job and we were all so proud of her! After the race we went for a celebration lunch and Aunt Julie, Jerry, and I headed back home. We got home around 4:30 and Jerry and started cleaning the house for Ally’s birthday party, which was today. Jerry’s mom brought the girls home around noon and the party started at 1:00. The kids made tiara’s and pirate hats, played a few games, ate cupcakes & ice cream, and then Ally opened all her wonderful presents. She loved everything she got and had a great time with her friends.

We had a minor accident while Jerry was at class on Tuesday night. All the girls were over at the neighbors jumping on their trampoline. I was checking on them every few minutes, but it turns out there was a hole in the safety net that goes around the tramp and unfortunately Olivia found out the hard way. She slipped through the hole and somehow chipped her two front teeth. There was a little blood from her bit lip, but other than that, she was fine. So bright at early yesterday morning I took her to the dentist for her first check up. She did great. She walked in like she owned the place. The dentist and the hygienist were giggling at her because she was so brave and confident. I have to admit it was pretty funny. She took a baby doll in with her and held it the whole time she was in the dentist chair. Prognosis: just chipped the enamel, no permanent damage, NO more jumping on the trampoline!

Today is one date I will never forget. Of course today is a day to remember all the lives that were lost 8 years ago in the terrible 9-11 attacks, but on this date 3 years ago Jerry, Ally, and I found out that we had twins on the way.

I remember the doctor asking me if I took any fertility drugs while trying to get pregnant. I said “no.” She then proceded to say “well, here’s one baby and here’s another baby” as she moved the ultrasound wand around my already popped out belly. Jerry almost dropped Ally to the floor and I started laughing and then crying. It really was the shock of our lives. Sometimes I still can’t believe I have “twins.” I look at those two beautiful little girls and think, “wow, they’re mine, they’re cute, they’re healthy, and boy are they naughty!”

We’re all doing well. Jerry finished his first college class the beginning of August and he is taking two more this fall (which actually go toward his degree program). So far he likes his classes. I just finished my 4th masters class, which was the most intense class yet. It was 6 weeks and kept me fully busy every free minute I had. Many thanks to Jerry for his understanding and to my mom and Jerry’s mom for helping with the girls on a few different weekends so I could get some homework done!

Ally started her 1st week of real preschool last week. She moved from the Bunny Room, which she was in this summer, to the Dinosaur (Dino) Room. Everytime we talk about the “dino room” Lauren and Olivia say “I want to go to the dining room too.” It’s pretty funny and sad because they really miss Ally when she’s at school and they want to go to school so badly. Jerry and I aren’t in any real hurry for them to go off to school…it’s EXPENSIVE! One more year is soon enough.

The summer was a busy one for us. It flew by. We did a lot of camping and playing outside. Our last two camping trips were with family. The middle of August we went to Indiana with Jerry’s sister and her family. We camped at Jellystone Park in their trailer for 3 days and had a blast at the waterpark and the playground. Here are a few pictures of our fun! Last weekend we went to Burt Lake State Park with my mom and Bob. The weather was perfect! It was also Jerry and my 6 year anniversary so we slipped out of the campground a couple times for some much needed alone time. Saturday (our actual anniversary) we drove the 30 miles north to Mackinaw City and walked around for a couple hours. Then on Monday morning we woke up at 4:20am, drove back to Mackinaw City and walked the 5 miles across the Mackinaw Bridge starting at 7:00am. The bridge walk was an interesting experience and fun at the same time. Here are some pictures our our weekend at Burt Lake.
